6 bolt vs. 4 bolt cv joints...is one better than the other?

Hey all,
I'm currently in the midst of swapping over aluminum trailing arms off a '76 onto my '72. The '76 uses a 6 bolt cv joint while the '72 uses a 4 bolt one. Is one better/stronger over the other?

Also, because my impact gun is pretty weak and I didn't notice the difference until I tore everything apart, instead of swapping the stub axles from the hubs could I swap in the 6 bolt output flanges from another 915 trans and just use the 6 bolt cv shafts from the '76? They seem a bit beefier as well (right one in pic). TIA!!

I would expect that they could be swapped. . . but I don't know for sure.

Jeff,

You can't swap the '76 output flanges into your '72 915 ... the splines in the differentials are different!

Thanks Warren....I was looking through some records for the car today; trans in the '72 is from a '75, and the output flanges are from a '81 915. Would that work?

I think I'm gonna end up buying a better impact gun to swap the stub axles instead.
