I found this 356 coupe in my own home town! It has lived under a shelter for the last 10 or12 years. All stock and everything is there!
![]() ![]() Oh, yeah, it is a 1962 356B coupe. No sunroof, no outside mirrors! Best of all, the owner WANTS to sell it!

Wow nice find! What's the story? Did you hear about it through the grapevine or see it driving by?

Cool Find! How about the Volvo P1800 next to it? I love those cars. 60's styling at its swinging best.

Sweet, but it's a B... Sad, but probably not a financially wise restoration unless you get it for practically nothing.... the interior looks decent still... Generally though, cars don't end up in barns for no reason. If it were a cab.... hmmm....

Fred this will probably work for you.
I noticed that it was outside however under a roof. This means that at least the dirt under the car was dry for a good part of the year. There probably won't be the bad floor in this one like those that sat on the dirt floor of a barn. David Duffield |

How do people let that happen to such a beautiful car. If you can bring her back to her glory days.

It'll probably take at least 20K to get her back into pristine condition...
Get ready....

You may be better off than you think. That's a T5 body 356B spec car - I think '59-61 (don't have my books handy) and a bit more valuable than the T6. If your luck gets any better, it might even be a Super 90 - check the engine model number next to the fan.... 356's make great drivers - don't need a concours restoration to enjoy them. May have originally been green (?) from the shots of the dash and passenger door. Post some serial and engine numbers. Great find.

Where in south Georgia. I lived in Douglas for three years in the early 70's and remember an early 50's Austin Martin that sat beside the road between Douglas and Albany near a gas station. Never did stop to ask about it. Love the P-18 in the pic's. What a combination.

T5 more valuable than a T6 ? I don't think so... Generally the coupé value is pretty much in that order: PRe-A, As and T6 C and SCs, with Bs dead last... The B neither has the lines of the A nor the latest motor and brakes of the Cs and Scs. It's currently the least desireable of the lot, with notchbacks... That does not make it a bad car, far from it, but I am talking value pure and simple. While we all love barn stories and have it in us to want to save an old car, I think the operative word here is caution.
Unless you are a master metal worker with a paint booth and your time is free, it's very easy to spend $25K in a decent restoration - engine tranny and body included - and, if you add purchase price, end up with, say, a 30K B coupe that is worth 20, 25K at the most... Generally cabs are a better proposition for restoration because of a higher resale value. I never heard of cars which were put up in a barn because they ran too well either, most were put there because of frozen engines and/or rust issues that made repair too expensive at the time, and those issues have not gotten cheaper to fix since... Anyway, cool find, love it... but know what you're getting into. |
