1972 Euro Motor?
I ran into a guy today with a disassembled 1972 Targa (claimed 1972 1/2). He also claimed the motor was a euro motor. I don't know the longhoods well, but I have no idea what he speaks of. Anyone know? This one has carbs, so I assume it was probably only a T engine. It also may not be original to the car. Anything greater than a T would have had MFI...right?
Thanks

US spec '72 T had MFI. Euro '72 T had carbs (Zenith, IIRC). Get the engine serial and type numbers next to the fan housing and post them here and someone will be able to help more. I've never heard of a '72.5, but that doesnt mean a lot.

The owner told me they were Webers. But he may not really know. Can you swap Zeniths for Webers? Would it fit that year?

Euro ’72 Ts had carbs and surprise for once the US Ts w/MFI and 10HP more. All other models had the MFI too. I don’t know of any ‘72.5 changes though in January of ’73 CIS was used on Ts. All were 2.4 ltr, all had the good forged steel cranks. I believe somewhere toward the end of ’72 or beginning of ’73 they all supposedly got the 7R case too.
You can swap Zeniths for Webers as long as the jets and venturis match. I would think a 2.4T would be about as big an engine as a Zenith would work on because of the limitation of the design. Hi steve ![]() Last edited by trak ratt; 03-26-2005 at 03:45 PM.. |

So would it be safe to say that a Euro 72 is worth less than its American cousin?
That's a nice change, if it's true. ![]()

Unfortunately, the MFI "T"s are in particularly high demand in Europe, where not as much distinction is made as here between T/E/S models. They are sought after for club racing over there, I guess that they are in the same stock class as the (lesser) carbed 2.4 T. And of course they are practically a dime a dozen for them now w/ our worthless currency. ![]()
