Racetech vs Wolf

Hello,

I'm looking for an EMS for my 911 race engine. Anyone with experience in Racetech or Wolf 3D.V4.

Please let me have your flavoured and subjective comments.

Regards
Thomas

Racetech or Wolf

Thomas, Ihave not had any experience with the Racetech EFI system, however I have fitted and tuned a 3.2 with a Wolf 3D V4, this worked out very well, the engine was quite standard but made approx 250-260 hp with exellent drivability, it still has the standard manifold, ports, valves cams etc. The only modification was to improve the flow inside the manifold. The great thing with the Wolf is they are so user friendly. If you are after a system to run the engine really well without features, like traction control, launch control, telementry, then the Wolf,is a great all round unit

Mike,

Thank you.

Any initial problems with your system - I'm on a tight deadline here, race is next weekend...

For anyone looking in here, my engine is a 3.8 race engine and is currently running PMO50. We have now build a F/I system with individual throttles and would like the benefits of EFI, however I do not need the rocket-science features some EFI systems have.

I do not need rev limiters (I know when to change!), launch control, NOS, turbo settings or the like, but I do want the complete engine management incl the tuning abilities.

Anyone with some Racetech knowledge?

Thomas

Thomas, the Wolf sounds like it would suit you well. It has all the tuning capabilities you need including boost up to 21lbs, rev limiter, runs to 16000 rpm, aux inputs+ outputs. The only trouble we had was some noise interfering with crank signals because we were using a 3.2 flywheel with an early version 4 which was not as adjustable as the current ones for signals and filtering, this was over come by using a hall effect sensor. since then the system has run faultlessly over the past 2 years. If you need info on the unit or dealers check the Wolf site at www.wolfems.com.au The guy to speak to is Steve Taylor he is really good and a true enthusiast!
Please let me know how you go I am very interested to know. You will not get much sense out of Aus now as we have finished for Easter! However I will be checking in so I'll keep a look out. GOOD LUCK.
Regards Mike

Thomas, I just remembered Steve telling me about his agents in New York have had very good results with various 911 engines. They are listed on the Wolf site

id look into autronic efi systems i use them in any standalone efi system i do,
just my preference i like the software its verry easy to use,
allot of it comes down to what your tuner likes to use, if the tuner is good at one system and not familiar at another and both systems are capable of the same things id use the system he is familiar with.
i tune alot of autronic cars and love the software and capabilities and thats why i recommend autronic.

I took a look at the user manual for the wolf.

Does it allow TPS to used at low RPM, then a cutover to MAP at higher RPM?

The manual shows a screenshot that says:

Sure looks like what I want. But the manual doesn't explain this setting at all. Doesn't even reference it other than that picture.

Chuck, I too have customers with Autronic equipped cars and have found them to be good to use, they have a comprehensive list of features/options don't they!
I am not anywhere near my Wolf manual now, as it is 10.15 pm Monday night ,but from memory they can be configured to switch from tps to map, I think it is a pre-determined band in which this can be done though. For confirmation contact Wolf on thier website listed on one of my previous posts above. They are very helpful. I will check my manual tommorow.

Guys,
I just had the Wolf agent here, he'll help install and wire the EFI tomorrow night, I will give you all feedback when I'm an 'expert' after the setup.
Dyna and trouble shooting Thursday.
Practice and run-in Friday.
Race Saturday.

Talking about time management here?

Mike - thanks for the positive feedback.

Regards

Thomas

Chuck, I double checked with Wolf yesterday and yes, you can configure the ECU to switch from TPS to MAP, at a point determined by the user It is tricky to make the progression smooth but very possible.

Thomas, glad to have helped looking forward to hearing the outcome
