Recovered my top

Had to take a week of vacation this week, I knew I could spend quality time with the car.
When I bought the car last September the top was in bad shape, seam split etc. The PO had bought a new cover, this would be a good time to put this on.
I used the tech article on recovering and Thom's (widebody911) page on his method. Both were similar.

Took me most of 2 days, I took my time removing the old cover. The burlap/foam underneath was in pretty bad shape, I used canvas to replace the burlap. Could not find any thin foam (Thom had recommened 1/4 foam) so I used 1/2 batting. Not sure how well this will holdup in the long run.

Correctly fitting the cover was a pain, that took me most of Thursday, about 6 hours, fitting, refitting, triming and glueing down (I used weldwood contact cement).

Its not perfect, couple of ripples but much better than before, less wind noise. But for the grand total of less than 10 bucks I'm happy. Of course, after I took the photos below I realized, what an idiot, I forgot to paint the rain gutters, oh well, glad I'm not a perfectionist.

A few photos.

To warm my self up for this project, I painted my wheels earlier in the week. Again following some posts, I used Rustolem Satin black 7777.
