Where can I get a replacement O2 sensor
 

Hi there,

I'd like to purchase a replacement O2 sensor for my 3.2L.
Bosch Canada apparently does not have any universal sensors in stock (part#15735).

Does anyone know where in the US I could order a universal from?

Why not get the right one and order it from Pelican?

Yeah ... that makes sense. The last time I looked (many months ago) I couldn't find the correct page. I kept on getting the K & N oxygen sensors when searching. I think I have it now at this link:

One question though regarding Part N-606-126-01. Is it and OEM or universal?

While I'm at it should I buy the removal tool? I assume that it doubles as an installer? Or can I just use a socket, or wrench to install?

For the price they charge, I have to assume that they are Bosch original's from pelican. You may want to check....

On the tool? First I would see if I could borrow one first because the frequency of use is about once every 3 years or so depending on your driving.

The torque on the sensor is 40 ft/lbs.

I bought the correct size socket from AutoZone, and cut a slot in the side with my Dremel tool. I think the socket was about $5, and it took about 20 minutes to cut the slot. Worked great.

At $200+ for my car, I have to assume that that's the OEM version, with the connector. The generic one (that I installed) is far less expensive, but it required that you graft the connector from the old sensor to the new one.

Grafting the connector is the soldering of three wires and shrink tubing? (As you stated in the other thread I started)

It's VERY simple if you have any soldering skills whatsoever. The black wire from the sensor gets connected to the black wire on the plug, and the two white wires on the sensor go to the white wires on the plug. Cover each solder joint with heat shrink tubing, and then use larger heat shrink to cover all of the joints. Don't forget to slide the unshrunk tubing on before you solder. BTDT.

It's less than a one-beer job, and it saves a great deal of money.

P.S. BTDT stands for?

BTDT = Been There, Done That (as in, I soldered wires together but forgot to slide the heat shrink tubing on first! :mad: )

Scottb...you are correct re: $200.00+ for 02 sensors for the years of '84 and '85.

I believe we are talking an '86 and that OEM sensor is about $100.00 or half the price....

Just for S&G's, in general, what are prices for generic sensors for an '86

About $50 +/-. Still a lot less than the OEM.

That's tight. I installed a strut brace this winter and the shock tower bolts were put on at the recommended 32 ft-lbs.

I checked it out. The brand is "Walker". When it comes to oxy sensors how important is the brand name? (i.e. is the Bosch universal the same?)

There is a Bosch "generic" sensor, but if you do a search, there is a Bosch sensor that is a Ford replacement that is exactly the same, other than the connector. Cut and splice the wires. There's actually a pretty amusing thread buried somewhere where Wil and someone debate whether its ok to splice the wire.

Don't worry about it-splice the sucker.

Is the Ford sensor, with the connector, cheaper than the generic Bosch unit, sans connector?
