New Forums Server CPU...

Sorry about the outage - just testing a new forums CPU. Had to pull it out because I literally smoked and blew out the fan (trying to rewire it - MORE POWER - JK).

New CPU will be installed tomorrow after I get a new fan at Frys!

I've got all DELLs here, but I bought the boxed processor from Intel (not DELL) because it was hundreds cheaper. Turns out the fan was not compatible, so I just bought the fan and heatsinks from DELL for $20. Just installed the 2nd CPU again moments ago, and the machine is running fast and fine!

I have 4 Dell 400SC servers at my house, I use them as desktop PCs and they are rock solid! Stick 2GB of ECC RAM and 3 250GB hard drives in and you're all set!

I agree Dell 400sc rock solid, work on Dell's all day from the small 400sc home server, to the large 6650's at work, Dell does a good job and really supports Redhat Linux well. FrayAdjacent911 do you work in Gold Support?

Our company works for Dell, and the majority of our computers are Dell. Aside from that I used to fly Mike around and its hard to find a better company or computer.

Cool that puppy down and forge ahead!

Actually I'm in Silver... and I do a little RedHat myself. I'm starting to dabble in the Linux areas. If I get off my butt, I plan on getting my web server and an FTP running on Linux at home.

Since you asked, the machine at startup says: "Warning: Processor microcode not installed" or something like that?

PowerEdge 1600SC...

Gotta love it... go to a Porsche board to get help with your Dell processor issue.

Try going to a Dell board to get help with your 911 MFI or CIS issue.

I dunno... why don't you call support?? hehehe... j/k.

I'll look it up, but you may want to check for BIOS updates. I think a later BIOS version will take care of that.
