Dead Battery

What could be drawing power? I have had no troubles in the past and all of the sudden my battery went dead in just a couple of days. This past winter it would sit for 3-4 weeks at a time with no problems. I did hose off the motor last weekend, could I have hit somethiing that caused a power draw? Dome off, lights off, only the clock rolling. Thanks for any advise!

Kris

First things you need are a multimeter, to find out where the draw, or ground, is, and a hygrometer to find out if your battery cells are okay. If you don't have those, you're simply playing a guessing game.

Pull the negative battery connector and put an ampmeter inline. Then pull fuses individually.
Check battery, lead-acids can only be fully discharged a few times.
Use search function.

For an '86 it should be closer to 16 mA......

Report back if your power windows "function" when the car is "off" and the door is open.....

A search will show you why.....

Yep. That's exactly what happened to me a few years ago, the little plunger thingy (technical term) in the door jamb was sticking and running down my battery.

More specifically...

It was sticking allowing the P/W relay to be "Always" energized.....therefore running the battery down. It's where I'd look first after a fuse/draw check.

You know what it ended up being is the trunk light switch. While it is up I depress the plunger and the light doesn't go off. Then I close it as much as possible and it doesn't go off. I tried sticking my wife in to watch but she's just not quite small enough. Anyways, I had the battery tested and it's toast, over 5 years old.

Thanks for reply's as normal!
