Project '72 Update #9... it runs!

Made a huge step today. Actually moved the car around the driveway under its own power. What a great feeling that is after all this time. I still have a lot to do as this just wasnt an engine swap, but a complete rebulid and refab of everything. I wanted so badly to rip up the street, but I havent got it aligned yet and my wheels are pointing in every direction. The front suspension height is close, but the rears will have to be taken apart and moved up a spline or two. In these photos the bumpers are just hanging on and not properly fitted yet, and im not going to bother until all the alignment/ride heights are done. Much easier to get on and off a lift without them on.
Enjoy!

J Smith 03-25-2005 01:40 PM

That car is sick! Congratulations.

ipapilot 03-25-2005 01:44 PM

Geez, are you trying to kill us or what! I can safely say any of us would love to have that in our garage!

jmz 03-25-2005 01:45 PM

b-b-b bad to the bone!

89turbocabmike 03-25-2005 02:03 PM

Nice! Hood vent is radical. I can't wait to see it with the stance all dialed in. That green makes guards red look staid:)

Bill Verburg 03-25-2005 02:10 PM

very nice!:) What sort of muffler did you end up w/ ?

lars63 03-25-2005 02:11 PM

Love the color great looking ride.

NY65912 03-25-2005 02:28 PM

Oh my!

FrayAdjacent911 03-25-2005 02:34 PM

If you get that baby running as good as she looks, you're definitely going to tear up some roads!

I only hope I can have my baby looking that good... someday...

tommy5305 03-25-2005 02:51 PM

That car is HOT!

Jack Olsen 03-25-2005 03:00 PM

Sweet.

Bill Douglas 03-25-2005 03:05 PM

Seriously nice looking car! Even if it only goes as far as the end of the driveway :) Plus a '72 has got to be one of the best cars around for that sort of project

jpnovak 03-25-2005 03:50 PM

Green with envy! Great work. Love the hood vent!

JonT 03-25-2005 04:11 PM

I am currently sporting tremendous wood

jond911 03-25-2005 05:04 PM

Wood x2

Incredible!......

Jadams1 03-25-2005 05:19 PM

WOW!

rattlsnak 03-26-2005 08:09 AM

Thanks guys!!

Bill, I havent got a muffler on it yet, i just bolted up the stock convertor to get it running. I have a good friend who owns a muffler shop, and we are going to fab something either like yours using a Flowmaster or something like Mike F, using two smaller ones.

Elombard 03-26-2005 09:01 AM

Looks sweet, the black wheels would have looked good too. Maybe if you get a second set.

ted 03-26-2005 09:13 AM

Front hood treatment looks slick.
You must be right on schedule for the spring track season!

Sunroof 03-29-2005 07:44 AM

And I am proud to say that Marc is one of the greatest guys around. He has gone out of his way and taken time out to help me with several projects I could not tackle. He is certainly a great individual and master mechanic. The photos do not do it justice. This car is a beautiful work of ART......You should be very proud Marc.

Cannot wait to drag down Sandy Plains; although I know I will only see your tail lights!!

Bob

}{arlequin 03-29-2005 07:59 AM

the body, the color, the motor... awesome!

MichiganMat 03-29-2005 08:01 AM

Congrads Mark, thats awesome. Beautiful car.

sprbxr 03-29-2005 02:53 PM

What a huge pile of *****!

Just thought I would shake things up a bit.

That thing is incredible. I wish my projects turned out half as nice as your car. Beautiful work.

cactusdtd 03-29-2005 05:03 PM

Dude,

Awesome ride......dial it in then air it out!

TRE Cup 03-29-2005 05:50 PM

Very nice! hope you have a different tail for the track; with all the front downforce- especially the cool "can am" hood, you need a serious wing out back otherwise she will oversteer

LakeCleElum 03-29-2005 06:34 PM

Luvvvvvvvv that color!!!!!!!!!

rattlsnak 03-30-2005 04:46 PM

Ok, got the ride height just about dialed in. Having the adjustable spring plates makes it about a 15 minute job on each side! Today its at the muffler shop.

Havent got a track tail yet, but I am. I just love the euro cup car tail. Very similiar to the 3.8 tail, but much shorter on the sides and no air scoops.

Zeke 03-30-2005 06:22 PM

Wow!

rdane 03-30-2005 06:27 PM

Green wood! Nice, no realllllyyyy nice :)

jacko241 03-30-2005 06:29 PM

Very nice car, Snake. I love that color! What kind of shifter is that?

rattlsnak 03-30-2005 07:04 PM

It has the WEVO shifter, coupler and gate shift. From the little ive driven it, (around the driveway and on the trailer), it is VERY precise to say the least. Absolutley ZERO play.

Jack Olsen 03-30-2005 07:24 PM

The Wevo pieces rock.

lateapex911 03-30-2005 08:06 PM

Looks like a Tilton brake bias ahead of it.....

I too am green with envy, but I won't go so far as to brag that my wood is "tremendous"! ;)

Tricky D 03-30-2005 08:10 PM

AMAZING!

That is precisely the color I'm using on my 2.8 RSR build using a 72 body.

What are the odds?

I've added your photos to my ever-expanding notebook of things to do to my car. Yours is definitely one of the nicer examples I've seen.

Well done!
