Odometer question

I have a question about my odometer. A search did not answer my question exactly, so here goes. I noticed while on a drive today the odometer had stopped working showing about 200 miles on the trip meter. Got home and did the search and read some of the replys about the gear disintergrating. I went to the garage to try to reset mine and it reset to 000. Figured that maybe it just hung up. Figured that if the gear had broke some teeth it would not reset. So went for another drive. No response. Stayed at 000. Soooo, are we talking the gear problem here or something else? I have a 88 model. The speedometer is working fine.

Thanks!

Mark

Yes the gear is gone. If searching you may have seen the options for repair.

You can send it to a speedo shop.
You can buy the gear and do it yourself.
It is not any easy diy fix but some here have done it.

I took mine to local shop for about 100 bucks.
