T Rallye in bodyshop.

Ok.. So its not a genuine T Rallye. But thats the kind of look im going for..

Preliminary digging shows the tub to be solid, but a couple of areas of the shell need repairing.. The doors are being replaced, as is the front hood.

The RS front valance is being replaced with a fibreglass 'S' version. The rear valance is being replaced with a 1 piece fibreglass rear. Both bought from Autofarm. Horn grilles will be replaced with chrome items. Indicators will be chrome rimmed. All other trim deleted.

This is her last night.

What are your views on fibreglass front hoods?? Im undecided whether to stick with steel. (better fit) or go with f/glass (less weight)

Oh.. the colour is being changed to silver too..

Any decal suggestions for a period competition look?

All feedback appreciated..

Sorry about the quality of the pics.. i only took 3 with my crappy phone camera.. i'll try and get some decent ones and scan em..

Interior wise, im gonna stick with the early sports seats that you can just make out. Id like RS door panels with manual window winders.
Im replacing the headliner with a black one.

Gonna rip out the rear seats and replace the 33 yr old carpet. A half roll cage will complete the look, but all this is months away.. Other than that, im gonna leave the dash, steering wheel, gear stick, pedals, rear shelf standard.

Open to any suggestions tho.

Yes its right hand drive..

cheers

In his early days, John Buffum, of SCCA Pro-Rally fame, ran a '71 911 with the familiar "Carrera" side graphics replaced by "Let's Boogie".

Very cool, IMO.

Silver, eh? How about replicating the '68 911 rally car, "2 BRX"? That's one of my all time favorite 911's. I remember seeing a magazine spread about that car a few years back and the image of the silver 911 with orange/red graphics has stuck with me ever since...very cool.

I couldn't find any good pictures, but here's a web site with some bad res shots.

http://www.autofarm.co.uk/car.php3/SB349.html

Your in the UK...right? You're probably familiar with the car.

Keep us posted on your progress...and we definitely need more pics of your car.

Just slightly off topic. Does Pelican sell the early “S” spoiler? If not, where is the best place to purchase one of these. Does anyone have one of these that they would like to get rid of?

That's funny Keith, I was thinking the same thing. Nice space saving lift.

The surgery has begun..

These were taken on Saturday.

A few patches required here and there.. The patient is doing well though..

That pic of '2 BRX' is great. Mine will have the same lightweight rear bumper, but will be un-flared. The stripes look good but i'm thinking of just starting with white roundels..

I suppose decals are like tatoos.. Once youve got one you just cant stop and end up covered in em..

What about the interior guys? I have some early recaros which im keeping, but what about the rear? Carpet... no carpet.. Half cage.. ? any pics for inspiration?

Since i decided to keep the sunroof the car will always be a compromise in some eyes.. Im just trying to trim excess flab..

Doog, if you are converting to RS door panels, could I buy the left side --passenger-- door arm rest from you?

Damn techweenie, I PM'd that Q a week ago, but ya beat me to him...Doog - if you're going lightweight, what if you left the carpet out and used some of the truck spray in bedliner material. Seems like it would provide "some" sound proofing...while minimally covering the steel.

A FG hood or trunk lid will save a substantial amount of wt. in a not very important place (rel. low on the front). Data are in my spreadsheet at Thom's web site: rennlight.com

There may be issues of gap fit, overall smoothness/paint condition, flex at high speeds, and possible damage from weight on it. How serious these are depends on the quality of the food and how much you care (i.e. the use the car is put to).

I'll be interested to see posts from people with street cars that have FG hoods....
