Transmission Main Seal Removal?

How do I get it out of the guide tube?

i got to watch my mechanic remove this seal with a tool he fabricated. on one end was a thick flat hook and the other end was a hollowed out pipe. it was the perfect diameter to allow him to tap in the new seal flush. he tapped the hook end in and pulled it out.

the tool was made by tom amon formerly of T&D. he is now a "freelance" mobile mechanic, mobile works west. it's one of those tools that he should patent, produce, and sell so he may clock me if i try and take a pic of it .

if your talking about the input shaft seal, i used a large deep socket, a couple of pieces of wood on each side and a table vice to push out the old and push in the new. This was after i picked and hacked and cut to no avail.

Which way do you push it out? Towards the tranny or towards the engine?

i dont remember, but you can see a lip/step on the inside that the seal rests up against. pay attention how the old one comes out when i was doing mine i pushed it out and then wasnt sure how the new one went in.

ps. I thought it was kinda funny that the mechanic quoted me $980 for the job and meanwhile it cost me $9 to DIY.
