Porsche Crest Wheel offset

I have aftermarket wheels 16x8s and 16x9s with close to a 944turbo offset, 23mm front and 11mm rear. Can these be used on a -84 Carrera; Fuchs 9x16 have a 15mm offset? I tried them on for fit without tyres and it looked like the insides on both front and back were pretty close to the struts in front and springplates in rear. Using spacers is a hassle and costly as well. Opinions please.

jt

The only way to be sure is with the tires on. If the bare wheels are close to the strut and plate you should be OK, spacers will take care of that; they're not that expensive and will get you were you want to go. Good luck!

Wheel fitments

Front is going to be very tight at the fender lip, best fit here in an 8 x is 25 - 31mm the bigger the +o/s the more wheel is inboard and the more interference at the inner wall less at the lip, the smaller the opposite is true. 8s generally don't interfere w/ the shock cover, wider will. 225/45 might be the safest bet but no guarantees

Rear is also tight at the lip, but is only 4mm more outboard than the Fuch 9s we have all used, shouldn't be an issue w/ a 245/45 unless the tire has an unusually large square shoulder. Definitely not a problem inboard.

Smile wheel fitment

On the fronts I'm worried about the outside fender lip. The lips are rolled which should help a little. On the rear even stock Fuchs are fairly close on the inside. Suspension is stock Bilstein sports and car has been lowered to Euro height. It's hard to judge without tyres and I hate like hell dropping $700 on RA-1s to find out but guess I gotta.

Thanks, jt

As I said the front will be tight, the Toyo RA-1 225/50 x16 isn't reallly that big a tire @ 9x24.7 but w/ fairly square shoulders. I have fitted 9.4x25.5 w/ squared shoulders but w/ a little more + o/s,

There is a lot you can do to the lip, like shave the bulk of it off. The lip can also be ooched out a bit but will probably need to be repainted if too much stretch is attempted.
