It might be competition in a drag race, but that's it. The vehicles are on different planets when it comes to handling, braking, etc.

Don't worry, the traction/stability/fun control will kick in to reduce the hemi to a more manageable 150HP as soon as you turn the steering wheel.

Yeah, let's try to keep things like this from being in the tech forum. It's sort of Spammy. No offense.

I'm surprised at the comments, especially cegerer's.

I would take the challenge that a Cayenne would have trouble keeping up to the Jeep SRT-8 on any road course. To say that the Cayenne has superior brakes and handling is an uninformed observation.

SRT had the Cayenne Turbo as a performance benchmark and said they've exceeded its envelope:
The Brembo brakes are 360mm front and 350mm rear. 60-0 in 124 ft.
0-100-0 in 18.8 secs.
Tires are 255/45-20 front, 285/40-20 rear.

Remember, the Cayenne Turbo weighs 5700 pounds! The SRT-8 will weigh about 4800 pounds ...... 900 pounds less!!

900 pounds is a lot of mass to control on a road course. It's just physics.

Most of us like 911's because of their light-weight and precise, tossable nature.

A Cayenne ISN'T a 911 (it's closer to THREE 911R's actually). Go drive one.

And you can defeat the ESP. Even a 2005 G.C. Hemi can do a smoky burnout if you hit the button.

Cayenne Drags Porsche’s Quality Scores

By Kevin Kelly

WardsAuto.com, May 3 2004

Porsche plans to make changes to the Cayenne SUV to improve its standing in the J.D. Power Initial Quality Study

Porsche Cars North America Inc.’s stellar quality reputation took a blow, as it fell 42 points in the J.D. Power and Associates 2004 Initial Quality Study.

The auto maker blames the decline solely on the new Cayenne SUV.

Porsche did manage, however, to eke out a top ranking in the premium sports car category for its 911, while its Stuttgart, Germany, manufacturing plant also received a gold award for plant quality.

“We’re disappointed with the results for the Cayenne,” a PCNA spokesman tells Ward’s.
Yeah, you're right. I'd rather pay $95,000 for a VW-shared complex pig.

Porsche recalled over 40,000 Cayennes due to inadequate welding where the seatbelts anchors to the floor.

The Porsche Cayenne's JD Power Overall Initial Quality Ratings are 2 of 5 stars. The Jeep Grand Cherokee is 3 of 5.

Jeep has a higher Customer Satisfaction Index (CSI) than even Toyota or Mazda.

And the SRT-8's engine, transmission, and transfer case are warranted for 7 years and 70,000 miles vs the Cayenne's 4yr/50K

My wife's latest Jeep, a 2003, has had zero problems or defects in the 50,000 miles she's driven it so far. She loves it.

Jeep has technologies and subsystems from its parent company, Mercedes-Benz....including ESP, transmission, climate controls, computer/bus systems, etc.

I guess you get what you pay for.

Heh. I wouldn't mind a VW Golf with that engine... behind the front seat.
