Randy,
I guess the fix is obvious - seal-less. A Marine don't need no Seal! BTW - I didn't know your targa bar was painted. Mine is white - the painted ones do look better than the traditional black or steel IMO. Did you use a special primer? |
Hmmm, the role bar could be an issue perhaps... Also, what in the world are those hex bolts in the rear "female" plug?

Also, the bar was painted like that when I got it, so I have no idea what type of primer was used on it. Geof, I know as much about those hex-heads as I do about the primer on the targa bar. :( All the more reason to replace the seals (that I really don't need, according to Mike. :D ) Seems like the more I work/play with this car, the more i find where the PO did some "different" kinds of fixes. Oh, and I have considered the roll-bar. Not sure why I haven't posted that info, but the a-pillar does rubon it. It rubs enough to squeak when I hit bumps in the road. Do you think it's possible that the roll-bar is forcing everything out of shape? I suppose I could experiment with a lift and see how the body flex changes anything. Good thinking!!! Randy Randy |
I'm having a little trouble understanding exactly where to remove the the material on the front seal.
I replaced mine about 6 months ago. It doesn't sit very high in the front but I do have to apply alot of pressure to the front latches when I put the top on and the doors require alittle extra push to close. Also a fair amount of wind noise over 60 mph. Can Dan or anyone supply pictures or a drawing to show where to cut away the material? I get the channel across the top but exactly where on the corners and sides? Thanks |
All side seal that attach to Targa top appear to be 1/4" to long and thus interfere with top laying correctly. I have found this true of after market and factory side seals. I cut off the rear 3/16 of rubber an push seal as far back as possible. This though makes it tough to tighten screws. Hardly matters for screws hole in rubber seal were never in proper place to start with.
During my Targa top restoration process I normally trim the side seals of all tops. I also glue the nose rubber back too provide a better fit. |
Randy, the fix is simple. BUY A JOHN DEERE!!!
