FRont Susp Pan - fix or need replaced ?

Hello,

I have a 78 911SC that has rust on the front suspension pan. Looking for some guidance. The question - Can it be repaired or does it need to be replaced.

Suspension points are solid - rust not even close.

The rust on the bottom in the center section for about 8-10 inches. In fact I removed the metal from the area to get a look inside. It certainly seems to me that this was the extent of the rust. Rest is very solid.

So I can treat this area for rust and weld a piece on the front or does it have to be replaced ? It goes without saying I would rather fix than replace, but I would also love to same some $$.

I do not have a picture of the current condition on the car, I can get that later - if helpful. But I have indicated on the picture of an uninstalled piece where the rust is- in the red box.

IF you are positive thats the extent of the rust you should be safe to fab a piece and repair, need to see if you can find out why that was where the only rust turned up though, hood seals leaking, etc.

Thanks for the reply. I made a mistake on the picture - the rusted area is NOT where I indicated in the first pic. I have attached a corrected picture - the Yellow area is where the rusted area is.

Does you opinion chnaged?

I agree it would be easy to repair the area indicated .Clean up with a disc grinder before MIG welding in a patch will confirm the extent of the rust. The usual failure spot is the crossmember between the 2 front lower A arm mounts not where you have indicated. Poke around with a screwdriver to see if any weakness is in the crossmember. If originality is a concern consider the front section replacement anyway.

Thanks for the post Just want to make sure you saw the revised pic. I think the rust is where you indicated - between the a-arm mounts.

I just saw your revised pic and you have rust where I expected it to be. If the top of the crossmember is sound you can still repair it without full replacement.

In my opinion the top of the crossmemeber is sound, but I intend to really get at it with the grinded and make sure.
