How to fill transmission fluid?
An embarassing question - how do you fill fluids to the transmission (a 930 box)?
Mine is sitting on a bench & it looks to me like the fill hole is the 30mm plug on the driver side (tranny facing as if its in the car) just behind the throttle linkages? I believe I need to level the transmission then fill till the fluid lines up at the bottom of the hole? Does this sounds right? Really dont want to unscrew the wrong plug  Thanks.. |
I typically use a hand pump to move the fluid into the hole. The proper level of fluid is as you describe... at the bottom of the hole, when on a flat surface.
Also, it sounds like you have the right plug. |
If you don't have a hand pump use an oil funnel with some plastic tubing connected to it. Shove the tube into the fill hole and let gravity be your friend.

Thanks Rob...
I'm actually filling her with Mobil 1 as a trial & it looks like there's a nozzle tip so should be able to squeeze the fluid in straight from the bottle :) |
Forgive the ignorance, but do you have the G-50 trans?
If you are the 915, it seems that the Swepco is the favorite from the other members on this board. Mobil is one of the favorites for the G-50 Just checking SmileWavy -Chris |
I have a tried and true means of filling in under 15 minutes. First you need a funnel from Walmart that has a hose on it with a means to start and stop the flow (blue one with measurements on side is $3 or $4), then buy some extra hose of same size at Home Depot ($3 or $4 again), Swepco or tranny oil of choice. Heat largest pot of water you have until it boils, poor in to bucket large enough for swepco or oil container to fit in. Heated oil, funnel elevated to facilitate gravity, 3+ quarts later, 10 or so minutes. Your full. The trick is heat and elevation.

DonMo just described the way I do mine.

Chris, I have the 930 box. Hence the mentioning of trial. My mechanics prep a lot of race cars & he swears by Mobil 1 even on 915. So I thought I'll give it a try & see.
DonMo - thanks for the tips. I certainly will need it in future. This time, the tranny is sitting on the bench so pouring fluid in "should" be easy. |
