Crane XR700 install
Hi everyone,
I've got a Crane XR700 that I bought two years ago that I'd like to finally get installed in my 911. I've been searching the archives here and finding just enough information to totally confuse the heck out of me. Although a simple step-by-step "do this" list would be handy for installing it, I think I have a general idea what to do. What I'm not sure about, however, is if the install needs to change because I've got a Jacobs ignition in the car. The stock coil is still there powering the trigger and tach adapter. Basically I think the way its hooked up now is that the distributor fires the stock coil, which is plugged into the tach adapter, which triggers the jacobs unit, which triggers a jacobs coil which goes back into the distributor. Yikes. I'm assuming if I just wire up the Crane box to the stock coil, even though the result would make Rube Goldberg proud, it ought to still work? Any tricks/tips for installing the Crane unit? Does the distributor have to come out? The last time I took a distributor out of an engine was in high school, from a big block Chevy engine, I think. I remember it being pretty straightforward, but... this makes me nervous.
