I heard a pop/crack, then I rolled to a stop

Making a slow right turn yesterday, I tried to shift from 1st to 2nd and I heard a pop/crack or something and then I am just coasting. My tach went up to about 2k while at idle. I could rev higher with no issue and could move in and out of gear but nothing would happen.

It is now at the shop waiting diagnosis. I am fearing the worst. Any ideas? Just about to turn 100k.

Chris

Did you lose a half shaft or CV joint? You said you costed, but was it because you clutched in and purposely coasted?

Hope it's just a CV joint..

New half shafts just installed. If one went would I get some spin from the other?

With car in gear and foot off the clutch and not moving the engibe just raced to over 2k. This is the weird part. Why is the engine idle speed increasing?

If a shaft came unbolted it could put pressure on the throttle linkage and raise your idle. You need two axles to move the car, one won't work. A quick look underneath will tell.
