Nice job, Sergio! Where did you get the material for the rubber isolation mounts? Are those the mounts that came with the RX7 cooler (if it's an RX7 cooler, that is)?

Rob - The cooler is indeed a Mazda cooler. The ends of the cooler were cut off and the thermostat discarded. New larger ends were fabricated with a larger inlet and outlet. The rubbber isolation mounts were cut off the original ends, drilled through for bolts and reused.
While I did cut the opening in the tub and formed the sheetmetal, I cannot take credit for the welding of the aluminum nor the sheetmetal. This work was done by Tom Martinot at Duetsche Motorsport in Concord, CA.

Sergio,
Very nice! Do you have any other pictures of the actual connections to the oil cooler as well as the notch for the cooler? I was getting ready to do my front cooler and have the hoses outside the tub, but after seeing yours would like to see if it might work better.

Sergio,
How about a wider shot showing the whole front view of the car?

Nice job! I understand you just finished the job, but I'm sure you already tested the car, have you noticed the temp difference before and after?

I am going up to Thunderhill this weekend. Before the cooler, on a cool day with just a trombone, it ran 210.
Anyone interested in a concours correct trombone?

Sergio, what do you estimate the cost to be?
Thanks, David

I ran at Thunderhill this weekend and the oil temp was at 180 - on a similar weekend last year, it ran 210 without the cooler set-up. As for the cost, the cooler itself was $50 from a RiceRocket salvage yard. As for the rest of the cost - its hard to say. Steel braided oil lines, 6 A/N fittings, sheet metal, four days of cutting/fitting and some very nice welding by the Master. The spare is a 165/70-16. I believe that it came from aC2/4.

Unless this is a dedicated track car....how do you handle the fact that the oil lines go through the body ( now) toward the front cooler...how do you prevent water / cold outside air, etc, etc..... to get in the trunk area ?????

Wil,
I plan to stuff the holes around the the oil cooler lines and hole in the battery box with black tar-like strips that can be formed around the openings. I have used these with good success in other cars. I have to admit that I don't drive this car in the rain much.

Congratulations, 30 degrees cooler makes a huge difference on the engine life and "pushing" comfort.
