Question about early 911 flywheel

About to install a new flywheel and I realize that it does not have the boss/hub for the pilot bearing. I tried a few blows with a brass hammer without any movement. Is this a press/interference fit, right? Do I need to heat or cool it for better results? Thanks in advance.

PS - anyone know how to have the ring gear replaced on these 901 tranny flywheels?

In 1969 the ring gear was integral to the flywheel. Measure the thickness of the contact surface to be sure you don't need to replace the flywheel anyway.

I knew that on the ring gear is machined on the early flywheels – therefore no replacement part. But I have heard rumors (I can't remember where) of milling it off and replacing with a separate ring gear. This one is similar to the 906 units and I hate to loose the use of it. Consequently it is worth spending the $$ to get this done if it is possible.

JOHN – thanks, I did not know it came with the pilot bearing – I expected to just get a needle bearing. I try not to beat on things when I don't know what I am doing. I will proceed with a new one.
