Talking Grady Clay - Coming to the Bay Area local Pelican gathering?

Hey everyone,

Grady Clay will be in the Bay Area April 7-19.

Grady’s mom lives in the N. Berkeley hills and he is going to the NASA/PRC event at Sears Point. He will be in the South Bay somewhere in the April 11-14 range. Let’s think up some fun things to do. Sounds like we may be able to get a dinner together or perhaps even a run after work since daylight savings starts this weekend. It will be on a "school" night, so it won't likely last too long into the night (K911SC ). Hopefully the local guys and anyone else willing to make the drive can chime in with ideas etc.

The more the merrier

East Bay, Marin, and SF City guys, do you think that you would want to plan something too? Grady says he is willing to be an excuse to get Porsche people together for no-big-deal Gatherings

Thoughts?

-Chris

well, I will be racing at the NASA/PRC event, so it would be a great place for a PP meet and greet and help in the pit

PRC event, that might be fun. Hopefully the weather figures itself out and we can make a midweek run of Skyline or something. The Zone AX up north is the 16/17th and I plan on being up there.

A twilight run could be fun.

I'm thinking of going to the AX at Santa Rosa that weekend as well (will be my first one if I do).

I'll be at the Santa Rosa AX too. When's the event at Sears Point? I can go that if on a Saturday. How about a fun run at Skyline or dinner, at least, in SF or Berkeley on the 14th or 15th w/Grady? I'll be away earlier in the week so those are the only days I can come out and play.

Grady would make for one fantastic crew chief! I just dunno if you other bozos could follow orders well. Have fun guys...I'm jealous.

NASA/PRC is Saturday and Sunday, I don't have the schedule yet, there is a prctice, qualifying and race each day.

I am guessing there should be between 25-35 Porsches there, somewhere like 15 Toyo Cup cars, atleast 5 with new motors, mine included, so lots of sorting going on.

I am also hoping to be testing my new "do it yourself" wide band O2 sensor plugged into my DL90

paul, was the name calling called for? still grumpy today eh? just playing in reference to your recent OT post.

in a previous email exchange between cbeers and i it was mentioned that grady will be staying in the south bay for a few of the days as mentioned above. i would suggest we meet at a location thats about a 5 minute walk from where G's staying. not that i am stocking him, or the person he's staying with, let's just say i am familiar with the neighborhood.... anyway the joint is called the longhorn and you can get a good meat and potato meal on the cheap. anyway just a thought for the south bay mid week affair.

i am staying off skyline as of now on account of i got a ticket up there about 4 weeks ago. not only did i get a ticket the cop yelled at me big time. 56 in a 40 leaving/a half mile south from alices resturant. he got a 3fer too, two sport bike behind me got it as well.

regarding the 15/16 i am out. will be doing my exhaust swap out that weekend. all these events are going to make my list of helpers shrink like a pinis in a cold pool.

and cbeers, sweet jen is confirmed to be working friday afternoon at murph's. i will be there at the wash sink watching her #'s jiggle whilest washing glasses.

OK, I've been hearing you guys talk about this chick Jen for a while now. Post pics, if you have any, or arrange a field trip to Murph's.

i don't have a picture, well except for the one in my mind...

i am back from the little trip i just went on, in my mind...

its not that she is such a bo derrek 10 piece of ace, its other things that make her hot. i know this sounds gay coming from me, but her personality is what makes her that extra bit attractive. plus, my tab never reflects just how many drinks i seem to have had.

cbeers would you agree with the personality statement?

chris cnt55, any friday you feel like, or are close to the south end of the bay i will give you my seat at the wash sink....

Don't be afraid of Skyline Toby, we can be careful.

About Jen, I can say that she is sexy and smart and a kick in the pants to be around. Actually Toby, the two of you may be too explosive

Or did you already take care of that on your little trip you just had?!?!?

I'll bring in the digi Friday and make her pose for us

Maybe we can plant a hidden cam on the faucet for wash time...

Just in case you guys did not know, GGR will be at Thunderhill on the 9th-10th. Bit of a drive but maybe its track Grady has not seen yet? Will be all Porsches so he should feel right at home.

Also, is he aware of all the plans we're making for him? LOL, I've not seen any comments from him on this post, just us NORCAL guys planning his trip for him

Hey Doug,

Good suggestion.

Yup, Grady knows about all of this, I have been emailing him since last week about it and offered to post this thread to get things rolling.

He DID say he would chime in......Mr. Clay??......

Thanks guys. I’ll be glad to be an excuse for Porsche people to get together. Besides, I would like to put a face to all that I know on Pelican.

My basic schedule is:
Arrive Oakland 4/7 noonish
Attend NASA/PRC event 4/9 &4/10
Go to South Bay 4/11- 4/14 sorta.
Back in Berkeley and get my 510 sold 4/15 – 4/18
Leave Oakland for Denver 4/19 PM.

If I can get the 510 sold earlier then that frees up the weekend of the 16-17 and more to play with Porsches. If anyone knows someone who wants a Dime (Bluebird), feel free to give them my e-mail gradyclay@hotmail.com . It is a ’72 Datsun 510, 2-door, 105K, 2-owner, original paint, un-molested, un-rusted, and has been sitting for 20 years. The engine turns over just fine but I don’t want to make it run after that amount of time. A running one (but molested) sold a few days ago for $10.5K. I’m going to give the right buyer a real bargain but I want to stay involved with its resurrection. It seems the 510 guys are just like Pelicans. Can you imagine finding a ’72 911, original paint, 105K, no rust, and stored for the past 20 years?

OK, who has cool collections of cars I can visit?

Once we get a NASA/PRC event schedule, perhaps we can have a designated meeting time and place in the paddock each morning.

The idea of a Skyline Dr. “tour” and BYO picnic sounds like fun – weather depending. Additionally, Longhorn’s in Sunnyvale sounds like a good idea spaced a few days earlier or later.

When I’m in Berkeley I can easily take BART into the City.

In East Bay, weather permitting, would a BYO picnic in Tilden Park be suitable? We can reserve a site and parking lot at Lake Anza. What other? Where would be a suitable East Bay restaurant?

Doug, that was a consideration in my original plans but a day at Thunderhill and a day at Sears seemed a bit much. It would be great to see all my GGR friends (and Loma Prieta, Diablo, Monterey Bay, Redwood, and more.) I understand Thunderhill is DE Instructors training.

It will be fun to meet all you guys face to face. Thanks to Chris for the organization, it should be fun.

Best,
Grady

FWIW, this morning I had a nice long breakfast with Pelican Bill Lamb planning his H-Stock 911SC Club Race car and then spent the rest of the day (again) supervising the plumbers ripping up concrete in the basement to get to a sewer line. Ugh.

Grady,

Friday is the instructors training, Sat/Sun are the DE/Time-trial days. If you do decide to come out Sat or Sun look me up, car #655 Red RS clone..

That's from our last DE at Sears in the driving rain (no pun intended...)

If you don't make it I will try and make one of the other get togethers.

Grady and Chris:
I would enjoy joining a dinner in the South Bay and meeting grady and the rest of the Pelican group. I am available on the 12 or 13th. The 11th is my anniversary. Grady it is to bad that you could not come for the R Gruppe meet.

I think I could very well be in on a (possible) run and dinner. I'm in San Rafael (not far from Sears), but I would travel a good distance to meet and briefly discourse with the estimable Mr. Clay.

Please keep this thread alive with any updates!

ianc

Edit to say: Spud that is a damned nice pic and car!
