What to topcoat POR15 with and procedure

So I por15'd the floorpans in my 914-6 racecar, but now need to topcoat them with something. The car is a spyder so the POR15 would be in contact with uv rays, which is a no no. POr15 sells topcoats,, but what I have found is black, which would be too hot in my opinion. Can I use another product and if so what would it be? I would prefer using a brush if possible. Anyone have past experience or suggestions?

Not to de-rail your post but I am POR15 my 911 tub and I am thinking of going with a product called quiet car from www.quietcoat.com. I dont know if you are interested in a sound proofer but its liquid and looks promissing. Just an idea if you need to go that direction.

Call Por 15 and they will give you all of your options. You should be able to use their primer and than cover it with whatever I think. Confirm with them. Good Company! No affiliation just a satifised end user.

From what I've heard, you can sand, then primer and sand and then paint over POR15.

I'll probably be trying some of that in my car where it needs it, and maybe as a temporary solution to some rust spots.

I'd use 400 w&d to break the surface of hardened Por-15 to provide a bite. An acrylic urethane paint should't need primer.

Use the Por15 primer/topcoat most everything else I have tried peel off. Thier prier requires no prep of the hard por 15 base coat.

When I do POR-15, and intend to paint it, I mist on a coat of primer just when the POR-15 is barely tacky to the touch. This gives the sucessive coats something to grab onto. I did this on my yellow bus when I painted it in 2000, and the paint is still holding strong, even with using a roof rack.

What Thom said is the way to go, i have done the same and it worked great. I dont even think that the POR tie-coat primer will stick to dry POR.

POR sells a product called Tie-Coat primer for that purpose.

This is the process that was told to me by the POR-15 tech support. I did not want to use their primer, I opted to use the PPG primer that matched the paint I wanted to use. 45 minutes after the second coat of POR-15 I shot a light coat of primer. After it dryed you can apply a heavier coat with no ill effect. I believe if you try to prime over dry POR-15 you will have big problems. If you have shot the Por-15 already I would use ther Tiecoat product before painting.

I think the tacky paint idea also works. POR also offers 'engine enamel' in various colors for use over POR15.

GenX - I've used Quiet Coat - spray some clear over it if you use it on the exterior.
