Clutch helper spring question
 

Can I drive the car without it? Will I break the clutch cable or pedal doing this?

I am getting to a point where I think I might want to bring another new spring to a competent mechanic to install it properly for me :(

You shouldn't break anything immediately but over time you will oval the pin hole in the pedal arm for the cable. Lube the stink out of the cable pin in the pedal cluster in the meantime, then get the helper replaced -- soon.

hobieboy, is it possible that you put the spring in backwards? If I recall correctly, it is possible to do. That may be the cause of your problem. Look at Wayne's 101 book for the proper orientation. I do not have mine handy, or I would check for you.

Thanks for the reminder... but am sure the orientation is right.

I found my old spring & installed it. The pedal is now a bit lighter, but still a strange problem - it does not disenegage the clutch completely.
It moves the splined small arm only by ~1cm. Factory said it should be 2.8cm.

I really ran out of ideas...
