Robert "Bob" Kirby Porsche Racer
"A great passion of Mr. Kirby's was auto racing. In 1967, driving a Porsche 911S in the GT category, he finished 9th overall and 1st in GT, beating much faster cars. In 1984 he won the E Production National Championship at the SCCA runoffs in Atlanta." Thought that some of the older guys might remember this guy. He just died in Santa Barbara. This was a quote from his obit. The parts they left out were that he ran at LeMans,Sebring,Daytona Beach,Watkins Glen and many other lesser known races.

Sad news indeed. I saw Bob at a race in Pueblo Colorado two summers ago and proudly introduced him to my son. He was racing his 1.7 914 in an attempt to race on every track in North America. We have corresponded several times and would have gotten together at Ventura last winter if my health hadn’t interfered. He was in fitter health than I was.
I recall volunteer crewing for him at Sebring in about ’71. He had a Ginther prepped 914-6 (GT I think). I remember arguing strenuously and unsuccessfully when he put a glass gallon bottle of fuel in the front trunk wrapped in a beach towel. He helped me (financially) to go to the Runnoffs one year. A check and note showed up out of the blue. A true gentleman racer and will be missed. Best, Grady
