The basics are used by most manufacturers to increase power. Different cam timing, higher compression ,bigger valves, larger ports, less restrictive exhaust, larger carbs, etc. Various mods to maintain reliability at higher power level such as forged pistons and crank instead of cast ,and better oil cooling. Porsche used all this and more , some changes eventually were adapted to lesser engines as years progressed.

So basically have to determine what engines were in a given year 911, then when have a car to look at the numbers on the engine will tell me what case it is. Knowing what P&Cs/Comp Ratio, Cams would be based on service history or actually when I would tear it down to do a top end rebuild.

To me it seems like 50hp+ is important. Thanks for your input.

Regards,

It is more than a matter of hp. The 'S' -- from 67 to 73 -- is a disproportionately valued and valuable car.

Actually it's 160 vs 130 hp. Cams, valves, pistons and a less restrictive exhaust system make up the difference.
