Cheap 993

Ok here is the delima, we took a 1995 993 Coupe 6-speed in on trade here at the dealership and it is Midnight metalic blue with grey interior and it has factory adaptive sport seats. Perfect on the inside but it has quite a few rock chips on the outside. Due to the 123,000 miles that it has on the clock. But it has been dealer serviced for it whole life. Need an oil change and thats all right now. Tires in the next 10,000 miles and a break flush. Other then that it needs nothing.

I can buy it for $12,600 should I?

For 12,600, hard to go wrong. As long as it is straight, the rest can be fixed. If you don't want it, I will take it if it is straight and has a clean title. Heck, I could send some extra funds your way.

Assuming it doesn't smell like a swamp inside (Katrina car), buy it no questions asked. In fact, contact me...a midnight blue 993 is my dream car (especially with sport seats and 6-speed)...and I'll give you a hefty profit. Check your email.

As stated above, if its got a clean title and no fish under the floor mats, you could spring for a 10K paint job and still have a good deal...

of course...you could always take that same 10K and put it into the engine along with some track time

I will get in line if you are flipping. You could part it at that price. The only way it might not be a deal is if it needs a top end job right now and you are like me and cant spring for it. If you have not checked you can get decent used motors for $7-$8k.

again if the AC works and no one above wants it I will bid!

My gut reaction?...it's a no brainer if it checks out mechanically. Heck, even if it's got some minor issues it's still a bargain unless 993's have tanked and I see no indication of that. Are you in Baton Rouge? No more affiliation with Steve Louden? Not sure if you remember me but we met at Zim's swap meet or something.

Buck, yes I remember you. I now work for a Porsche dealer here in Dallas as a sales consultant. I get to drive all the cool cars including the new 997 turbo. Anyway, back to the matters at hand the 993 has spent most of it's life in Tyler, Texas and the Dr. that owned it just wanted a newer Porsche. It has never been in an accident and has all the updates and records. It has had new plugs and wires updated wiring harness. And it is only seeping at the valve covers. Which we all know is an easy fix.
We or I just got lucky b/c that is all he thought the car was worth so that is all the money that we gave him.

So I think I have made up my mind. I will post pics when I take delivery. Thanks Kenneth

Off topic but wouldnt it be better to treat the doctor a little more fairly and keep him as a customer for longer? If he finds out the dealership schucked him he might be pissed? I am not self employed so maybe I dont know squat about business...I do occasionally buy stuff though.

Nothing personal I am sure the sales manager got a steak dinner out of it and is laughing about it.

Elombard,

We have a very loyal client base here. We did not "schuck" anyone. Don't forget value is perceived and he thinks as well as management thinks that this car is only worth what they think it is worth. Plus we delivered the new Porsche to him in Tyler and picked up his 993 and for a Dr. time is more valuable then fighting over $5k more. When he can be making $12k (guessing) more by working on patients instead of the driving almost 4hrs there and back. And he has been getting his car serviced here for more that 5 years. And has never complaned about how we treat him.

OK thats not the way I read it in your earlier post. It gave me chills remembering when I walked into the used lot at our (only at that time) local dealership and the sales manager had the hole slicked back pinned stripe gold chain thing going on. It was frightening and I ran. It has become alot better since another dealership opened up to compete.

Back on topic - sounds like you will get a great deal on that car!

Thats a good one, talk your proposed car trade ins up in price. This could explain the high turnover in the used car business. For some people the ease of handing their key over and getting a new car is worth it.

I just wouldn't tell the world about the windfall of a private business transaction, name of town (it's small) and profession. I assume new car sales are private between dealer and buyer. Not for the www. to see. That's just me.

If he's an enthusiast, he may read this board. It's a 50/50 chance that he may not care.
