RSR look Project Update - wiring + mb911 exhaust
It has been a long time since I provided an update. I have a bit to report. I've tracked down wiring issues with much of my car, removed wiring harnesses for many systems that are unnecessary (power seats, cruise control, rear window defrost) and built a power window harness. The car lost about 20 lbs of wiring and relays and gained many new functioning circuits!! I also cleaned many grounds, replaced connectors by soldering and shrink wrapping etc. All in all, I'm very pleased. I don't have pictures of the progress, but those of you who have done similar probably get the idea.
I do have some good progress to report in the exhaust department. I installed my SSi's, new oil return tubes and an MB911 dual in, dual out muffler. It looks great. I took a D-A to give it some shine. I started out with 220 grit. Then moved up to wet 1000. From there I put a buffing pad on the DA and used some metal polish from mother's. About 1 hour of work and makes it look like a nice exhaust rather than a industrial stove pipe (no offense Ben, I'm really happy). It is loud as HELL, though. All the neighbors know when I'm working on it, even at idle. I can't complain. I may end up asking Ben to modify with the full baffling, however. Since I'm doing many other projects, I haven't had the pleasure of opening up the throttle to see how she wails!! Here are some pics: Doug ![]() ![]() ![]() |

The car lost about 20 lbs of wiring and relays ... and mostly the motors, right?
Beautiful color. What is it?

Randy,
Could be 10 lbs, but still a bunch and much of it from wire alone. I have a good - sized box of wire. There were a couple of relay boxes, a motor, etc, etc. I am keeping the power windows for convenience. The color is two stage BMW titanium silver (w/ clear coat). Lots of fun. Thanks for your interest! Doug

Dave,
I'm taking my time to get things right, but also putting in a lot of hours to make progress. I'm having a ball! I'd love to do the end of May rally, but haven't imposed a hard deadline on myself. It seems like that may work, however. Thanks for your kind words! Doug

Doug sounds like you are really enjoying your project. What size rims and tires, the rears look pretty deep. One shiney muffler, fyi if its too loud may not pass the 92db meter at the Q. We'll all be down there next weekend for the Saturday AX and Sunday DE. Comon down sometime. Meet us for the after AX party if you like.

Thanks for the comments! Mike & Jim, great invite! If it is this upcoming weekend, I'm out. My Mom is visiting. I'll check SDR PCA. I'm shooting for maybe 6 weeks out to have it on the road again. Though the history is limited, it would be the first time in ten years or so. I paid 6 years + of DMV registration fees (though they were capped, so it wasn't bad).
Mike - the wheels are 9.5x17 front and 11x17 rears - Lindsey's 2 piece. They are pretty deep. Look really nice. Will look nicer on the ground! Doug

Doug:
That muffler set up must scream; I've got Ben's dual/single sport version and it really screams at full throttle. It echos while passing cars and people turn imediately; it's totally addicting. When I'm at the office I go through total withdrawal, I'll find any excuse to go for a ride to hear that sound. I can't imagine anyone not going with Ben's sound, it so viceral. J.P. |

Rob (MuffinMan),
thanks for your kind words! Yeah the spindles were raised by 911CTS on this board. He also gussetted them and painted them with epoxy paint. They look awesome!! Now I need to find some dust covers to match ;-) I just spoke with Ira from Tarett engineering last night. He is awesome! I've got his front Monoballs on order and I already have his front and rear sway bars thanks to Ted! Things are progressing nicely with my project. Doug
