"Jeeze... Long Maine winters, high taxes... I thought sure I'd get points for the no garage thing."
- You left out high winter suicide rates... But no extra credit. You are supposed to be tough (and not speak much either - unlike PNW or AK). That kills your extra credit. It's like going to Bowdoin - you don't get extra credit for your grades, but people see where the degree is from. Also - no earthquakes, summer firestorms, tornados, or huricanes.... some compensation. |
It will be nice to post the original purchase cost and the final RESTO Cost $$$
VicSmileWavy |
No, no it wouldn't. I think most of us just ignore the final tally for sanity's sake.

Schooooooo ;-) It will be nice to keep that figure away from your wife..! he he he .! VicSmileWavy |
Don't ask, don't tell. :D

Restoration price
The purchase price of my car was free, but the cost of restoring it is something better left unsaid. The last thing I want is for my wife to figure out just how much I've spent on it!

Bwaaaaaaaaaaahh hahahahaahahaaaaaa!!!
That was a joke, right? |
Posted to an earlier thread (My Targa Aquisition and Restoration Story ):
---------------------------------------------- First of all, who said anything about a budget??!! Original purchase price - $4500 If I total every dime I spent (including purchase price, tools and gas) it comes to $17,900. My time - who cares, usually it was enjoyable. Driving my wife to dinner and a movie - Priceless Some specifics: Transaxle rebuild - $855 Upholstery - $450 Paint shop materials - $1300 Recover hard targa top & headliner - $350 SPAL power windows, power lock, keyless - $400 Tint rear window $150 New rubber parts - most of the big ones were reused - $1000 Tools, books and equipment I bought - $700 I did all the work myself other than alignment and services like glueing the German vinyl to the hardtop (the best solution I could find) and tinting the rear window. The only remaining issues with the car are scattered oil leaks and the need to recalibrate the speedo. It was reading 5.4 MPH too high before my adjustment and now reads 1.9 MPH too low - I use GPS. There will be other things to sort out, and I will drive it until they show up......... |
I keep totals for almost everything - in a spreadsheet with the reciepts for backup. If the car is stolen I'll share it all with the ins. co. Second, I take some of the car off my taxes (and someday I'll make enough $$ that I'll be able to use deductions...). Third, it keeps me sane. My first 911 was bought from a guy who crazy with the car - ran up $50,000 or more in bills on his and his mother in law's credit card....

After: Ask me in 2 1/2 years or so. Money: Randy and I are cut from the same nerd cloth. I have a very detailed spreadsheet and a binder with every receipt. I expect to spend between $25-30k. It's only money, right? |

OK - Question de Jour....
Lets say you wanted to do a complete re-paint on a Targa with all new weather stripping, seals, etc.... What's going to cost you? |
twobono
The variables are infinite.. You do it yourself or pay for it. Total and complete desasenbly of your car partial .... A total RESTO or Partial A conservative amount between $2000.00 and $7,000.00 VicSmileWavy |
"Lets say you wanted to do a complete re-paint on a Targa with all new weather stripping, seals, etc....
What's going to cost you?" A good quality paint job costs about $3500 if you remove all the trim and glass yourself. The seals for a Targa can cost close to $1000 if you replace all of them. Boy, did red fall out of favor or what. Three red cars on this page got a color change. |
