SC Rear Bumper pads/guards

My SC is going back together with all new paint. The more I look at those fugly rear bumper pads the more I hate them. I did search on the subject and found several pics. While I like the look of the bumper with those deleted and holes filled or plugged (especially with 911R lights) I'm nervous about running w/o any protection back there.

Has anyone either fab'd up or found a suitable, more attractive replacement for these ugly parts?

Those bumperettes saved my A$$ one time. I actually kind of like them.

Yeah, I found that thread and got the idea from there of the plastic/nylon plugs...even found them at my Ace HW about a block away. Just a bit nervous about running totally bare back there....like someone will be aiming at me ;-). I may just see how those pads look when installed on the new yellow paint and decide from there. Lot of new black trim going on.

You may want to consider the middle ground, smaller Euro pads.

Mark - the bumpers, bumper pads and bumper shocks definitely work in conjunction to ward off serious damage, even above the 5 to 10 mph collision they were designed to withstand. A Volvo station wagon totaled itself after colliding with me in Hollywood four years ago. There was no damage to my car other than a compressed bumper shock, a nicked up bumper pad, and a bent deck lid. So, like you, I am hesitant to remove them, or put fiberglass bumpers on my car only because I do mostly city driving, and that experience of being rear-ended is still very vivid. I even have the f/g bumpers waiting, but still vacillate as to which way to go with this.
