Car Lifting Question?

I'm going to have my fuchs refinished this week and obviously I need to remove the four wheels from the car (duh). Here's my concern - I have never had the car up on 4 stands at one time.

What's a safe method - Do I get the front two wheels up on stands first, or the rear wheels first? Does it matter?

Do I jack one wheel up at a time and place one stand under the car at a time?

I know this should be a simple procedure, but I'd feel safer with some advice. Thanks for your responses in advance!

PS - I did a serach on this BBS, but no luck.

i lift the back of my car by the center seam of the motor, i can two jack stands under the torsion bar tube at the same time, pretty simple and a one man job.

once you got that, just go slow and you should be fine to do the front. for me, i put jack stands on the front mounts of the A arms, gives it a longer base than what the wheels are and just be slow and methodical about it and you should be ok, just no jumping in and out of the car, no pretending you are a rally driver while up on stands.

hope that helps

Joe

I always feels safer jacking up the rear first. Then the whole cars pivots safely on the rear torsionbars when jacking up in front.
Since you jack up the front by the torsionbar mounting, you will lift only one corner if the rear is not on stands.

Thanks for your responses. I did a search using "jack, jacking stands" and found a lot of information, and a lot of disagreement. Seems there are two camps; first one for using the jack pads and doing one side at a time, and the econd one for jacking up the rear of the car under the engine and using two jack stands under the rear torsion bars. And then doing the front.

Well, the instructions for the rear lift are cystal clear, I'm just not sure about lifting the front - I know where to place the jack stands in the front, but still not quite sure where to place the jack to lift the front?

You can only place a jack on the torsion bar mount in the front, there is no "center point", unless you use a 2x4 or something to spread the weight. Therefore place the rear on stands first so the car is stable.
I usually jack the front by the rear mount in the front, but I have a long jack.
