door jam number code

On the plate on the door jam next to the hinges on the drivers side door, what do the #,s 408-9-1 mean? Its the plate that says MADE IN WEST GERMANY

go to "search" (at the bottom of the bbs"page") & type in PAINT CODE....you should get a bunch of returns to look through. I use the "Restorers Guide to Authenticity" which has paint codes listed by year in the back...also check out

Yep paint code tag.

408 is for Bitter Chocolate (COCKNEYBRAUN) color code
9 is for the coach builder, which is the Porsche factory
1 is for the paint manufacturer Lesonal

Nope, not Sepia Brown. That is color code 415 last offered in 1973. Your car is darker than Sepia.
