What Track Wheels for '85 Carrera?
Hey fellow Pelicans,
After attending a couple of DE's and AutoX events, I now find myself in the market for a second set of wheels that I can mount some track tires on (Azenis or similar, something that sticks better than my AVS100s). Unfortunately I am having a very hard time determining what wheel will fit my car. I have 16" Fuchs on it now, but was thinking that for track tires I should go with 17"s. My car is an ROW Carrera, thus set at the euro ride height. I don't want to have to roll my fenders (actually I don't even know what that means, but it doesn't sound fun ![]() What should I look for as far as widths and offsets go? Would I be better off just picking up another set of 16" Fuchs? Any specific recommendations? Thanks in advance. Micky 1985 ROW Carrera Cabriolet - "Otto" |

I would get either another set of fuchs - or look for some good BBS wheels. I ended up getting a nice set of BBS wheels from a Turbo - 8's and 9"s for under $700. Good news is they are between 2 - 2.5 lbs lighter per wheel than my comparable size fuchs.
Rolling your fenders just involves scrunching the non visible lip on the underside of your fenders to allow more room for the wheel.

My $.02:
7 and 9 inch fuchs with 225 and 245 Toyo RA1's. Rolling the fenders is really not a big deal (get a pro to do it), and once you see all that rubber under your fenders, you'll be glad you did it. This setup will totally transform your track experience. -Jeff |

If you don't want to spend the money for Fuchs, we sell steel racing wheels that weight ~23lbs each. We can sell you a set for less than the cost of a single 8-inch Fuchs wheel. Spend the rest of the money on tires!
You can run 225/245 or 225/265 or 225/275 F/R tires with the wheels. With the right camber you won't need to roll the front fenders. Here is a 225 Victoracer the front of a Carrera: ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by MotoSook; 04-14-2005 at 10:48 AM.. |

We looked at a number of wheels, but the best bang for the buck seems to be the wheels we currently offer. Others were either too difficult to "customize" for fit or were too expensive. We'll look into that style again. |
