low idle problem FIXED!

sorry, i wanted to start a new thread so others behind me can search the solution easier.

here is the original:
i need some CIS help. starting to give up :(

basically, my car would idle hecka low, when restarted from hot car that sat parked for awhile. gave up, took the car to a mechanic.

it was two problems actually, one big, one small.
big problem was that someone in the past monkeyed with the microswitch next to the throttle body (lamda cars only). the switch apparently, lets the system know if the car is on throttle or idleing. my car thought it was on throttle all the time. everytime he took it for a testrun, the mix would get out of wack. second issue is that my tach reads a bit low at the lower rpms. so when i saw 500 rpms, it was closer to 700. at 1000 it is accurate. he showed my with his tach. done deal, car runs great. i misdiagnosed a bunch of stuff, but i am now wiser. didnt know my CIS car could be that smooth. thanks for all the help fellas.

THANKS!!!! For posting a result and how it was accomplished....

Many times threads just die out when results are achieved....leaving others to ask the same questions over and over.....

I was focused man, FOCUSED!

Only 3 seconds slower than my instructor. Not bad for my inaugural AX.

Good eye, Chris. They say the military and the penal system holds the best real estate in the Bay Area.

ok, enough about rick

i was thinking, the microswitch is probably one of the reasons you dont want to start a CIS car with your foot on the throttle. unless you like changing airboxes as a hobby.

Since removing my AAV, I need to open the throttle alittle for the extra air to start the car. Never have had any trouble with that, but I have a pop of valve and my airbox is JBwelded at the seams.

Sounds like you have a good mechanic. There aren't that many that can diagnose and fix a CIS problem without throwing all kinds of parts at it.
Who is this mystery guy?

he loaths, just throwing parts in. he always assumes the easy fix first, and encourages my DIY.
