Thanks for the pointers.

My cold start problem started right after my top end rebuild (that I did :)) but the higher warm idle just started this spring after the car's been sitting for the winter. I haven't adjusted anything from last year which might be the 1st problem.

Plan is to "reset" the idle speed back to 950rpm, confirmed/set my mixture using my wideband then determine if warm idle still a problem.

For the cold start issue - it looks like I should check the AAR? Think its supposed to be open when cold then close after a while? Paul, I thought both AAV and AAR operates during warm up? And the cold start valve is the device that operates only at start up?

My car is a euro. The engine pictured is not mine... it's from the dump valve gasket replacement post I found on the forum. Looks like the clear filter is an additional fuel filter - doubt it would handle CIS fuel pressures for long!

The euro's must have had a different set up for the decel valve. Mine connects between the intake plenum and the bypass valve plenum. Others pictured look like they connect to the throttle body.

The CSV and AAV operate together for startup only--the CSV provides the extra fuel and the AAV the extra air . Then they both shut down. The AAR takes over and does what you said. Mystery train has a great thread on the AAR.

hey all.. I've been following this thread and have had a thought about the all to common stumbling idle when first starting the car. Ok, starter is engaged the cold start valve sprays, the engine fires right up. The thermotime switch ( on my 78) keeps the vacuum from the WUR for few seconds to keep things rich. The AAV wants to close when the engine supplies enough vacuum. So, how high an idle is required to provide enough vacuum to close that valve. Looks to me that if the AAV is stiff it will have a difficult time closing..screwing up the mixture and cause the engine to do that stumble. Any thoughts?
