Question ~ Victoracer vs. Toyo RA/1....which to order today? ~

Victoracer (NOT V700 Victo)....vs. Toyo RA/1

I've run Yokohama A032Rs for 6+ years now - time to step it up a bit.

Parameters:

2.5 deg neg camber front, almost 3.0 rear.
Some street driving
Lots of track use
Tire must be dual-purpose, for now
225/245 or 265

Cost is fairly close, so this isn't a deciding point.

I've done the searches, read the reviews, & have friends who use both on their cars.

Now its time to choose. Fire away!

TIA,

When I did my search for 'Proxes RA/1' I came across a post by Jack from 2001 where you ran RA/1s.

What were your impressions, Jack?

Craig, I run them all the time. I like them. About the same as the Kumhos, but last longer and dont go away as fast.

Mark -

Are they a 'must-shave' tire for you?
I am running about 2.5 camber front & 2.9 rear. OK for an RA/1?

They are a must shave for me. Otherwise the tread blocks have too much side to side wobble. Once they wear down a bit they are OK. But if you are looking to go fast right out of the box, you must shave them.

I am running -2 in the front and -2.5 in the rear... THat seems fine, I feel like the tires could take more -negative camber then what my car will give me.

Maybe its too late... but I'm going against the flow.
I much prefer the Kuhmos - better stick & more predictable for me.
But, if you use it for street driving, they are useless in rain after a few track days... assuming you don't shave the Toyos (but that means they will be VERY squimmy & 0 stick).

225/245 16s for $162.95 and $169.95 - bought 3 of each tire.

These guys are enthusiasts and I'd also highly recommend them from a CS standpoint.

I've tried both and I prefer the Kuhmo Victoracer.

I have the luxory of two sets of tires and rims. For the track events I put the Victoracers on the roof rack and change them once I arrive at the track.

I would not use Victoracers for street driving, they wear out too fast. But on the track they stick really well after they warm up.

A couple of my friends use the Toyos for both track and street. One of them has tried S03s and liked both but preferred the Toyos. Both of them feel the Toyo is a good balance for track and street use.

On one of our track events I was riding with one of my friends in his 300ZXTT, halfway through the session we felt a "vibration" from the right front wheel. We pulled into the pit and were shocked at what we saw; there was a band about three inches wide all around the outside portion of the tire where the casing was exposed! We both looked at the tires prior to going out, we knew this would be the last trip to the track with that set of tires. We were also very surprized it was still holding air! Like me, he has two sets of tires and rims and uses Victoracers for track sessions.

I have a good shot of myself going around turn six, reverse direction at Thunderhill that I will post soon.

We are doing another driving event on June 28th at Thunderhill in northern Calif., let me know if any of you are interested. We could use more P-cars!

Garage
Craig,
You're too quick. I have a set of RA1s mounted on 8s and 9s sitting in the garage that I was going to let you use for a test drive. They have one track day on them.
I went from A032s to these as well. I think you'll like the RA1s, shaved or not.

So Crash, then those were the RA/1s that had (what appears by your description) the tread blocks ripped off?

Don - ah yes, I remember you had them now - saw them on your car at my house. How would you compare them to the A032Rs? I've used them for *6* years now -

Hi Craig,

the Victoracers were the tires that lost the tread blocks, his other set of rims had the Toyos.
