All those who rebuild their engine

Hi all,

I am in the process of doing a top end rebuild on my 964. I am document the diff between the 964 and the Carreras in the Engine Rebuilding Forum.

I am at the point where I am reassembling the engine, and would like to seek your experiences on where you have oil leaked when you installed your engine and run it for the first time.

Hopefully, this will help me put together a leak free engine.

thanks,
anthony

I had a few rocker shaft leaks, cured with the RS rocker seals at about $1 each. I'm not sure if these fit 964 shafts, but it would be worth looking into. Maybe JW knows....

Talk to JW. He's got some fairly conclusive opinions on sealant, etc.

Surely you went a little overboard with the number of words in that sentence of yours. :D

Of course JW knows. ;)

I've already ordered the RSR rocker seals. Will find out how it fits.

Just looking for areas where people are prone to make mistake a end up with a leak.

I am tempted to put Curit-T or some other sealant on every o-ring. But that may be a bad idea.

Dow Corning 111 or 112 goes on o-rings. Talk to John about sealant.

Pinching the O ring that seals the camshaft where it goes into the back of the chaincase(s) is a BAD thing. Oil at engine pressure here, as close to the outside world as it gets..
A BIIIIIIIIG PITA to fix, as well.
