BBS wheel paintng (GruppeB warning)

In order to fill the time sitting and waiting for my first trackday I thought I would do some busy work. I decided to change the color of my wheels, but the lack of having a budget played a big role. So my current wheels were BBS 1 pieces wheels that were gold as I had purchased them.

I liked the gold on my car but with all the black it just seemed fitting to go back to the way my Fuchs were which have black centers. I was in no position nor hand the discretionary inomce necessary to get them done buy someone like Al Reed. But none the less this didnt slow me down. A quick trip to AutoZone found me just what I was looking for, high temp engine paint - rattle can style. $15 bucks lighter in the pocket and I I had everything I would need. Some painters tape, crate paper, high temp engine primer and high temp engine paint.

It took me a total of 4 days to paint them and let them dry but the results are very pleasing. The pictures dont do them justice but from 10 feet they look amazing. From 3 feet they looks incredible. You only really notice any missed spray or drips if you are putting them on the car. And plus it makes for easy chip repainting after an off-track.

The pictures really dont do them justice im my opinion. But them me what you think.

I think it looks worlds better! I am about to do the same for a set of AX wheels I have laying around.

I also did my own Fuchs and they came out great

Absolutely! Good move. You've gone from frilly to sinister.

good job, man.....
definitely look great

I had done the exact same thing to a similar set of wheels awhile back.
The only thing I did differently was paint the outer edges a dark gunmetal gray where yours are polished.
So inner black, outer gunmetal grey.
They looked really good too.

must be satisfying to accomplish such a distinct change to your car on your own....

Hey 350,
How did you tape off the outside lip of the wheels? I am considering doing mine in silver and was curious about this.

No tape involved, I just did it by hand with a paint brush. I did get the red paint out of a rattle can though.

Nice job on it, man. I don't think my hands are steady enough to do it that way, though.
Thanks

Matt,

Looks great! Did you do anything to prep the wheels before you started with the primer?

Yes, I used some oven cleaner to take most of the dirt and some of the loose paint off. It worked very well. Took the shine right outta the wheels. Then a bit of sanding on some areas which wasnt necessary.
