AC install w/procooler, what else would I need?
Besides the procooler kit, what else is needed to install AC in a 911 that has previously never had a factory system? With people ditching non functional AC systems, it should be easy enough to source any of the components that are not included in the procooler kit.
The kit doesn’t include condensers. In Mark's procooler thread he mentions possibly going to a 993 condenser. I’m really ignorant about this stuff so someone please help me here. I’ve removed a non working AC system before and can identify some of the parts, but I have no idea what a 993 condenser looks like or where it gets installed. If I dont currently have stock condensors to work with, is this what I should look for? Does this mean I wouldn’t be able to use a front oil cooler? Where does the 993 condenser mount? What are my options on the vent system inside the car? I had one of the under the dash systems in my '73, and I didn’t really like it. I banged my knees on it every time I got in and out of the car and it looked like it didn’t belong there. I know Jack changed his dash to a later version with AC vents, but I’m not sure I would want to go that route. Did the factory ever mount vents anywhere else? Like the center console in front of the shifter? Are the condensers and the venting the only things I need that is not included in the kit? TIA |

The procooler is an add on. You will need a complete factory (or after market) system in addition to the procooler. If you upgrade while building your system is unlikely that you will need the procooler anyway.

So whats my best option if I dont already have AC? There has to be a better way than the factory did AC.

Sherman,
With the 993 front condensor and Procooler, you'll need a Behr evaporator unit, compressor and brackets, an underdash vent system(with controls), and you'll have to custom build some hoses. The 993 condensor requires some fabrication for install in a bumper car. Not sure about the early car. That should get ou nice and chilly..... |
