Cool How long are muffler straps?....

If laid out flat, how long is the 911 muffler strap from bend to bend? I have two stainless straps that I am planning to use, but they seem to be too long. The straps that I have are 23 inches from bend to bend.

Thanks!

Cool Anybody?....

Come on, guys, this is probably the easiest question ever posted on this BB! Someone out there must have a muffler strap they can measure!

Thanks,

Actually they are different lengths depending on if you have an early or late 911!

mine are on the car so measuring them is tough.

I have a single strap in my garage. I can measure it this evening when I get home. The one I have is for an early car though, so if they were different lengths, it won't do you any good.

for me, they only were in either of the two sizes: "not long enough" and "too damn long" which required cutting one and riveting it closer together... Ben's muffler is such a slim piece

Cool Muffler strap length.....

As it turns out, the muffler straps need to be about 21"-21.5" between the bends. This is based on using a "74 mounting bracket and an Ansa muffler (2 in / 1 out). To resolve the "too long" problem, I marked the strap, measured 1 1/2" and made another mark. I then drilled an 8mm hole thru the straps and cut them half way between the holes. I then bolted the two pieces together and "Voila" they would then work.

well well... I did just that, and used two stainless rivets to connect the strap, and somehow it separated....

Had a 3-day weekend at MidOhio and wonder whether the heat killed the rivets or whether the metal expanded and the rivets were smallish and fell out...
