964 Turbo - questions
I'm posting here as the 964 board does not get so much traffic.
Having recently sold my SC and now looking for a replacement car, I recently test-drove a '92 964 turbo (3.3 CISe) with 76000 km (about 48k miles). The clutch pedal feel was stiffer than a 993 I drove before, and I also felt a slight groaning/creaking part of the clutch action. I also thought that the turning circle was greater than I am used to on my old SC. The car felt perfect in all other respects. The dealer assured me that the car still has the original clutch. He said the stiff clutch is not necessarily a plate/disc problem, but could be a binding shaft somewhere in the hydraulic mechanism. Does anyone here have experience with clutch issues on these cars? How long does an original clutch last? What else should I be looking out for? I will have another opportunity to examine the service records. LeRoux

The car has a dual mass clutch. The pedal feel on the C2T is a bit bit stiffer. The original clutchshould have been replaced by an upgraded dual mass clutch by now. I would junk the dual mass in favor of a single mass setup if you purchase this car. The original clutch is very heavy compared to the single setup. This will give you a quicker revving engine. C2Ts don't encounter the stalling issue after installing the lighter clutch asssembly b/c it ihas CIS.
AS far as the turning radius, the track of the C2T is 2 inches wider than a regular 964 for better high speed stability. This decreases the turning radius a bit. If you buy this car, you won't be disappointed. they are incrdible. Just make sure the records look good. One more thing, here in the US parts are about 3 to 5 times more expensive for the the equivelent standard 964 part. (Example: Brake rotors are about $250 a piece) If the part number begins with 965, you better be sitting down.

Leroux,
If the records check out BUY THAT CAR. IMHO the 965 is the best 911 ever built. It's got it all, looks, driveability,Go Go juice, etc, etc. You will love that car Dan Jacobs
