Question - How to attach H4's ?

This may sound like a silly question but what does the screw in the bottom center of the H4 headlamp bezel screw into to attach it? I am thinking perhaps my fenders are US and the piece on the bottom of the heallight bucket is supposed to be threaded?

The new H4's I bought had a small black rubber "nut" attached to the screw.

This one has got me puzzled. If anybody has any photos of this, that would be really appreciated!!!

Derek

Not sure if I can unpuzzle you because I don't know what the '69 buckets look like, but later ones do indeed have a threaded tab at the bottom.

The ones I have (they are probabbly not 69) have the three adjustment tabs then at the bottom a netal tab but it is not threaded as if you have to put a bolt on the other side, which as far as I can gather is impossible to do once you have the top of the H4 clipped on?

I'm not sure the purpose of the rubber sleeves, but I am sure they aren't used as nuts. They may be a cushion or spacer. I would just remove them. Can you run a tap through the hole to match the screw threads? There was some rust on my buckets that ate the threads in the tabs. My lights are held in with stainless steel sheet metal screws. While the machine screw provided is obviously a better system, mine feels very secure also.

I'm not familiar with the '69 arrangement for lights.

I also tie-wrapped my H4's into the bucket so if they ever did come loose, they would stay with the car. Got that nice tip from another thread.

Regardless of how I fasten them, I will definitely do the tie wraps, just in case, what a great idea! I have this fear of my new lights falling out after I hit a bump in the road! Thanks Terry!

I'm not sure, but I believe the rubber portion is maybe a seal to prevent water from entering the bucket area.
Whatever the reason, I removed mine as it made it hell to install the light. I removed the little rubber sleeve, and it screwed right on in.
P.S. My tab at the bottom is threaded. 87 911. If yours is not, and the tab has a through hole large enough to allow the threaded portion to pass through, I would put a captive nut on the backside.
