Retro tire sizes?

My dad gave me an old 911SC brochure. In it were tire sizes that essentially were taller in the front than in the rear. I checked in my Technical Spec book and found the same thing. I don't have it at the office but I think it was 65 series for the front and 60 series for the rear.

Does anyone run their cars this way? I kind of like the way it fills up the wheel wells, even though I run 50 series tires.

205 50 16 front and 225 50 16 rear.

Show me Pics if you got em. Thanks.

The tires weren't technically taller, they just had different aspect ratios.

IMHO, "filling up the wheel wells" is a neat thing whether you take your stock wheels and space them out or go hog wild and run something like 245s/275s... :>)

I'm running 215 60 16's on 6" Design 90 (964)wheels on all four corners and they look just fine the way they fill the fender wells.

Yep the book says for my 15 inch cookie cutters 185/70 VR15 front and 215/60VR15 and for my Fuchs 205/55VR16 F ans 225/50VR16.

I'm going to have to study this aspect ratio thing.

Aspect ratio is simply a way of expressing the tire's sidewall height as a function of its width. So, a 205/50/15 is 205mm wide and its height is 50% of its width, or 102.5mm "tall". 15 is, of course, the wheel diameter.

...and to expand on what Dave said, a 185/70-15 is about 25.19" in diameter and a 215/60-15 is about 25.16" in diameter, so neither is really taller than the other - they just have different widths and sidewall heights.

Having said that, there's no reason to maintain the same diameter front and rear unless you have all-wheel drive.
