'76 930 wheel options help please

1976 930
Where would I look for a nice set of wheels, I personally prefer a nice wide look, probably chrome to set this car off. (smoke grey car)

It has the original wheels on it now which I will defininitly keep, but those wide fender flares are begging for a little more meat.

What size can I go up to, is there a manufacturer that makes a plug and play set that will fit this car?

What year/models wheel patern is the same as this car... ie. if the ad says it fits a 82 911 is that the same hub pattern? or wheel well clearance? I doubt I will find an ad that says for a 76 930...which is why I'm asking... (will all 76 years fit?)

Can I twist your information generosity a bit more and add that I am not looking for $10k in wheels either... but a couple grand is ok.

Thanks for any help...
Mike...

Your fender flares are what are called 9" & 11"

A very appropriate wheel would be 9" & 11"

You can use 15 -18" w/o issue 17 7 18 have the best choice of tires

Kinesis, Fikse, HRE etal all make plug and play wheels either w/ or w/o the stock spacers.

When shopping wheels it is important that you get wheels for an early 930. Late, from '80 on, have different hubs which affects what o/s wheels are wanted.

these would work:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7970806035&category=43955&sspagename=WDVW

but for a couple of grand you could have a set of 8x10x17 Fikse's, um, like these.

Hi Mike,
Here are some pics of my 77 930 w/ Kinesis 17x 9.5 and 12 w/ Goodyear F1 GSD3's 255 and 315 (with 28mm spacer in front and an H&R 14mm spacer rear). It's essentailly the same car as yours as far as hubs and fender clearance. The only mod for the rears (315's) is to bend your oil lines into the crease toward the inner wheel well to get the "no worries" clearance. I also shaved the eccentric bolts (on the spring plates) ~5mm.
Cheers,
Mike

These are Lindsey 8" and 11" with 245 and 315. Backspacing was worked out with Mike. No rubbing or modifications on the car at all. Right at your budget.

Miguel- Beautiful car.

Is the steering effort affected by the 245's up front? Are your 8's the same as the 8's on my rear? Or, is the backspace different?

I currently run 205 & 245 on 7's & 8's Fuchs, but thinking about a change.

Also, is "Lindsey" a fuch reproduction?

Thanks,
Skip

Skip, this set up it totally transparent to the car. The front wheels' steering becomes a lot more precise and the rear wheels oversteering, at speed or under acceleration, is decreased considerably. The car is pretty neutral. I also have installed different torsion bars and sway bars, but regardless of that, I strongly recommend more rubber all around on a 930.

Lindsey uses original 15" Fuchs centers and Mike welds the "barrels" to them, the final look is original and structurally sound.

The backspaing is something you need to work out with Mike or whoever is supplying the wheels. It depends if you want to eliminate, keep or add spacers. I maintained the original spacers on the car to maitain the original suspension geometry. Good Luck!
