The final answer is????
I did a little research on the CV joint and now I'm even more confused. Seems there are at least four camps. One with plates and washers, one with none at all depending on the year of the car, one with loctite (blue) and one that uses safety wire for racing.
Bentley book shows plates with no washers, 101 projects (page 116) has a picture of the CV joint with what appears to be a real dirty CV joint with no plates and no washers. I replaced the transmission side seal and found no plates or washers. What's correct?

My belief is that, for your car, you use the plates and the Schnorr washers. I have heard of CV joint bolts backing out, and I've heard of CV joints coming loose and falling off. So for me, the plates and the Schnorr washers are minimum and critical. This is also a good location for safety wire.

What did your torque them too? I was a bit confused by the diagram in the Bentley manual and the torque for the CV joint bolts that enter the transmission vs. the bolts that enter the back of the wheel.

Based on the chart on 390-3 I torqued them to 30 ft-lb
