Alright guys, k well I changed my transmission fluid out of the 901 4 speed. After it was making grinding noises in reverese and first only the rest of the gears are great. It does have a small transmission leak. It was running fine and then after a little spin of about 30 minutes got the car back into the garage and it started grinding.
When I first bought it was fine when the transmission was cold but after a 40 minute drive it was grinding. I just ordered new shifter bushing set from Pelican Parts. Maybe that will help with the looseness of the shifter, but I'm wondering if this is a sign to rebuild it or does anyone have any ideas on what it maybe.

Bad grinding is usually a sign of bad syncros and/or worn dog teeth and sliders. Did you notice any metallic shards on teh magnetic plug when you drained the oil?

Nope, the fluid was a very dark blue. No metal pieces of any kind and I was looking too.

Check your clutch cable adjustment. After that if it still grinds, see previous post. Helps to put shifter in 2nd or 3rd first then into 1st or rev.

With it temperature dependent as you describe, it may be that there is some oil on the clutch disc. This prevents it from releasing as it sticks to the flywheel or pressure plate. It can stick sufficient to overpower the syncros, particularly if they are worn. Oil on the disc can also cause the clutch to judder when taking off from a stop.
Oil on the disc usually comes from the transmission input shaft seal. When contemplating repair, you must replace the disc. It is not possible to clean the oil out of the friction lining. Also, do a Pelican Search on “dam seal.” This is a worthwhile addition to a 901. Best, Grady
