embarasing ?s

I know this sounds like horrible novice ?s, but is advanced timing to the right of the z1 and retard to the left? and does ATDC mean AFTER top dead center, or AT top dead center. I am getting confused because my flywheel has two hashmarks to the left of the z1 and none to the right, and I thought you set timing 5 deg to the right of z1. Please dont beat me up too much

ATDC: After Top Dead Center
BTDC: Before Top Dead Center

On the crankshaft pulley, BTDC would be to teh right of Z1, ATDC would be to the left of Z1

Flywheel would be reversed.

Not embarassing questions. Always better to ask and be sure than to not ask and screw something up.

Sometimes it's hard to realize...with a 911, when you're looking at the engine from the back of the car, the front of the engine is what's closest to you. not embarrassing at all!

Thanks guys, that answered all my ?s. It is as I thought, but I couldnt understand if everything is adjusted btdc, then why they keep talking about atdc, and why the hashmarks are atdc. Anyways, thanks again.,
