225 60 16 pros/cons

I'm running 215's on all four corners now which look and handle fine on my 74 w/ SC flairs. So I was thinking, next time, why not 225's?

Pros:

Better ride

Better mpg due to higher effective gearing

Fills fender openings better

Bigger contact patch

Bigger selection to chose from

Cheaper

Cons:

Slightly slower off the line due to taller effective gearing

What else?

Cheers,

Joe

SC flares? Why not the 225/245 combo?

A love of oversteer, perhaps?

Oversteer has never been an issue even after going from 7's/9's down to 6's all around.

I like the idea of being able to rotate my tires now to even out the wear.

Then 225s would seem to be the obvious choice. No way a 225/60 will fit up front though on most cars. 225/50s have a hard time.

One other con is that you lose a lot of the great steering feel of an earlier 911 with front tires that wide.

I know I had some rubbing issues with the 215's. Seems my left front tire was hitting the back of the valence when I turned right. My solution was to carefully pry the valence forward slightly with a 1"x2" wooden handle. I have a feeling that the 225's might just need a bit more tweeking too.

I cannot imagine how going one size larger would make that much difference feel wise. But then it's not that big a concern for me anyway.

I just thought of another Pro: Lower rpms at 65

Less noise

Less engine wear

Not that easy to cough up the change for a 993 or 996 either.

At least more rubber might be a small step in the right direction.
