Are those adapters still available? I'd like to do this on my Carrera which currently has a dead blower.

I did this and am about to revert to the original blower. why? returning the car to stock from having been a DE/street. now DE a modified 951.
if I recall there is already a block off plate on the pass side on my 85. install backdate duct on the drivers side and duct to the heat exchangers. interested? http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1522764289.JPG |
If I understand correctly all I'll need is the duct and hose pictured?
Am I missing anything? |
You should also solder a jumper wire across the reed switch in the heater relay so the footwell fans still work.

Hi
I removed my heat exchangers for headers, can I still get heat (1984 911 3.2) ? Thansk |
I have to admit that the engine compartment does look better without the heater blower.
HOWEVER just recently we drove over to Arkansas for Porsche Palooza. Fantastic roads, best on the planet, and good friends. On Friday it was 18 degrees that morning. Burr. I really love the heater in my 85 911, especially when it is cold and I am actually driving my car. I have driven it to Savanna, GA when the heat index was 135. And the AC kept me comfortable. So go ahead and strip out all that "useless junk" on your car. It is your car, do what you please. My car will remain with stock heaters, and the upgraded AC of Griffith's technologies. I will continue to actually drive my car on road trip and see the country. I plan to drive my 911 in all the lower 48 continental states. I have been to Canada and over 42 states so far. In comfort. |

In my current car, smene had already removed the blower from the big plastic heat manifold. The heat still worked fine, though, so I guess the footbox heaters were enough. Since the manifold was doing nothing, I pulled it out. Have not yet installed the hose connecting the heat exchangers to the shroud vent, but that will be happening soon, given the coming of winter. After that I plan on installing electric AC. Like you, Glen, I do like those creature comforts. |
I took the AC out of my '86 Cab since I drive it open almost all of the time in the summer, but I really like the efficiency of the stock heat set up. It is not that difficult to maintain. I drive the car when the temperature is below freezing and it warms up quicker than any of my water cooled VWs. With the blower in the back, the footwell blowers and the ones in the dash, there is enough air to get into the cabin to keep it warm even in traffic with low engine RPM.

Tidying up the engine compartment is one thing. True backdating requires more pieces and add'l effort. Here are the pieces needed. Depending on your MY engine, some parts you may already have. Download an early 911 parts catalog for part numbers ('69-'72 or so).
Sheet metal pieces before powder coating. Disregard the engine and muffler mount brackets. Pieces marked with an X are early 911. The unmarked pieces happen to be existing 3.2 sheet metal. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1542745390.jpg Sherwood |

Webasto or Eberspacher gas heater will roast your socks off. |

If you have B&B headers, they should work with the existing heater crossover duct, so you will not require the tin. |
