Replacing syncro rings- What else to do while I'm in there??

Soon I'm going to be replacing the syncro rings on my 84 Carrera, and I have a case of while I'm in there syndrome. I was wondering about some other upgrades I could do while I'm in there. I was thinking the wevo internal gated shifter and the coupler. Does anyone have any other ideas? Thanks,

Tommy

If you are doing the rings because 1st or 2nd grinds you will also need the syncro teeth on the crunchy gear(s) and probably the 1-2 slider. If 3 or 4 are problematic add a 3-4 slider and 2 rings if 3and4 are OK now just new rings for them 5th rarely needs anything other than a ring. I have heard good things about the wevo products but have no first hand experience.

Only things I can think of are add a cooler, LSD. Oh there is some reinforcing plates for the diff and some other reinforcing plate that Wevo makes. Mostly geared toward the racers I believe.

Actually the car just plain will not go into second gear. Third gear grinds occasionally, and fourth and fifth are fine. I can't go into first unless I'm at a complete standstill, is that normal?
Thanks,

Tommy

You probably need 1 and 2 dog teeth, 1/2 operating sleeve(1/2 slider ) and 1st thru 4th syncro rings add 5th ring for good measure and a gasket set and 2 new mainshaft lock nuts All fairly typical

I am about to do the same on my 79 SC.
My problem is that in a certain rev range (from about 4 - 5 thousand) the second gear grinds (shifting from the first).
I have no problem inserting the first when the car is moving or inserting the 2nd from the 3rd etc.
I have already bought the 2nd synchro ring (this needs to be changed anyway) and I think the rest will be obvious when we open the transmission... Should I get anything else which definitely needs to be changed?

PS What causes the 5th gear to whine?
